DERBY, Conn. (WTNH) — The Derby Police were notified this week by a parent who stated that in two separate incidents two female students from Derby High School were approached by a male.

Police say the description given of the person was black and was driving a black four-door car thought to be a Honda Civic with tinted windows. The incidents happened after school dismissal when each student got off their school bus. The first incident occurred in the vicinity of Hawthorn Ave. and Talmadge Street. The second incident occurred in the vicinity of East Ninth and Olivia Streets. According to the report, the suspect rolled down their window, stated it is cold out and asked the student if they want a ride.

The Derby Police Department has assigned officers to patrol the areas in question at the appropriate times.

Police encouraged parents to arrange for their children to not be alone at bus stops if possible. In addition, they ask parents and students to call 911 and then also alert school officials of suspicious activities at any of the bus stop locations.

The Derby Police Department continues to investigate both incidents.
